Stampede and BossaNova have returned to the United States border to film the 6th season of Borderforce USA. While most of the action takes place on the southern international bridges that link Texas with Mexico, this new series has added the international crossing between Detroit and Canada to the mix – the busiest Port of Entry in the US.

Another new location is Eagle Pass, Texas, home to Eagle Pass International Bridge and the Camino Real International Bridge which crosses the Rio Grande to the Mexican town of Piedras Negras.

Policed by US Customs and Border Protection officers from the Office of Field Operations, the border crossings are used daily by the Mexican drug cartels to smuggle contraband into the US – the biggest consumer of hard drugs in the entire world. During the course of this series, over 5,000kg of narcotics will be seized coming into America while weapons, ammunition and tens of thousands of dollars in cartel currency will be smuggled out of the US and into Mexico.

But it isn’t just the transnational criminal gangs that are involved in the smuggling business; ordinary Americans hooked on pharmaceutical drugs embark on criminal enterprises by smuggling pills they have bought in Mexican pharmacies at a fraction of the price they would pay in the States over the border. Fines of up to $5,000 and the prospect of jail time deters many, but not all.
