Animal Rescue follows the work completed by more than 600 dedicated SPCA staff and 5000 volunteers, who give everything they have to protect over 31,000 neglected, injured or abandoned animals each year. Each episode covers the unique journeys of cats, dogs, horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, pigs and birds that have come into SPCA care following the huge number of animal welfare calls received just within our 5 month filming period.
The stories followed are either about animals uplifted, collected or who arrive at SPCA centres in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland or Ōtautahi / Christchurch. Some of the animals are in shockingly appalling states due to neglect and mistreatment, others have suffered serious injuries or have been abandoned, all are lucky to have caring SPCA staff members wanting to help them.
Each story is predominantly told by SPCA staff, the voices of the animals unable to speak for themselves.
