Stuck in the Suez: Dredging a Supersize Cargo Ship

March 23rd 2021 - she's bigger than the Empire State Building and while transporting 20,000 cargo containers through one of the most critical waterways on the planet, the Ever Given is hit by a might sandstorm. Blown off course, the crew braces against gale-force winds, and by morning Egyptian officials announce the unthinkable - the colossal ship is wedged diagonally across the Suez Canal and won't budge. Stuck in the sand and mud, the 400-meter long vessel instantly brings worldwide trade to a halt from high end goods to the more obscure garden gnomes!  With hundreds of ships backed up on either side a catastrophic jam is created with a staggering daily price tag of $10 billion!

Investigating the origins of this epic mishap, chronicling every step of the dramatic rescue this show weaves together dramatic archival footage, CGI and key interviews with those who were on the front line. It reveals how an innovative combination of technology and brute force ultimately saved the day. After a white-knuckle week, the Ever Given finally broke free, and four days later the backlog of ships was cleared allowing the Suez Canal to resume its careful choreography.
