This one-hour special tells the story of the first African American armoured unit to enter combat in WW2. They were the 761st Tank Battalion, known as the Black Panthers and they proved more than capable of living up to their motto of ‘Come Out Fighting’. This programme reveals how they had to fight not only the enemy abroad, but also at home. In America they battled against the racist Jim Crow laws, fought to be heard amongst a sea of white generals and trained in an era of segregation which saw Nazi prisoners of war have more rights than they did.
Through dramatic reconstruction, interviews with the veterans and their families, Black Panthers of WW2 tells the incredible hidden story of the brave men who fought in this little-known tank battalion.
