C21: Bell Media, Talpa, Discovery, ProSieben go on CJZ’s Patrol

Canada’s Bell Media, Talpa in the Netherlands and Germany’s Discovery and ProSieben have acquired series from CJZ Group’s Patrol franchise.

Distributed by London-based BossaNova, the franchise is produced by CJZ’s Greenstone TV in New Zealand.

Bell Media has acquired season 12 of Border Patrol, which follows the women, men and animals on the front line of New Zealand’s border security as they deal with everything from fake passports to illegal sex workers. Talpa also acquired S12, along with S10.

Discovery in Germany has picked up three seasons of Highway Patrol, which follows the Australian police officers tasked with keeping Victoria’s roads safe. Car chases, defiant hooligans, explosive crashes and out-of-control drunk drivers are just some of the daily hazards encountered in the line of duty.

ProSieben, meanwhile, has licensed S13 and S15 of Motorway Patrol, while relicensing S16-17. The series follows the daily drama provided by Auckland’s motorway network, following the officers whose job it is to deal with the constant stream of smashes, crashes and high-speed mayhem.

The sales come as BossaNova reveals its MipTV line-up, which includes 15 new shows. Also from CJZ is Armed & Dangerous (3×60’), which tells the inside story of Australia’s epidemic of bank jobs, prison breakouts and heists from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Fredbird Entertainment’s Extreme Tow Truckers (8×60’) follows tow-truck companies in Australia as they battle it out to secure and complete the most lucrative, and dangerous, jobs.

Noble Television’s The Big Sex Talk (6×30’), meanwhile, originally produced for CBC Gem in Canada, unpacks modern notions of sexuality, debunks myths and explores subjects like sex robots and polyamory.

Elsewhere, Hindenburg: The Cover Up (2×60’) takes viewers inside the crash of the largest ever airship and deep into the theories surrounding its downfall. The two-parter is produced by AMS Pictures.

Finally, Take Me Home (6×60’) is a family series that follows the stories of lost, forgotten and unwanted dogs in an outback mining town in Australia. Made by Projucer for Nine Network, the show focuses on the work of foster care and animal adoption agency SAFE as its volunteers match dogs with new owners.
